This course will provide teacher candidates with the knowledge and skills to teach French as a second language (FSL) in Core, Extended, and Immersion programs in the primary-junior grades (K to 6); teaching FSL in immersion language learning contexts will be emphasized. Guided by Ontario Curriculum documents, teacher candidates will understand cognitive, metacognitive, and affective strategies that support French language acquisition and cultural competencies. Teacher candidates will also learn ways to support students’ diverse language learning needs, including those who are learning English as an additional language. French will be the primary language of instruction. Prerequisite: EU436.
